Relics
I am slowly working on a series of gilded paintings based on newspapers images. I am interested in the way that the composition of these images seems to echo traditional religious art. Plus, the adoration of fans to a sport is similar to faith.
As part of the development of this idea I am also making reduction lino prints of similar images. The reduction print process involves working backwards, printing the palest colour first and then cutting away more material as you print over the image in successively darker colours using an ever reducing piece of lino.
Also here are some paintings of flattened out boxes and labels from food packaging. I think of these as relics of the domestic sphere which a lot of my work touches on.
